Description: Vesp (or dire wasp) live in hives deep within desert areas, particularly Black Sand. They burrow into the sand, chewing it and mixing it with their saliva to make it into a form of concrete. This concrete makes up their tunnel systems keeping them from caving in when the sands shift.
The vesp stands at six to seven feet tall, and ranging at about 18 ft long. The exoskeleton is a very tough material that can easily deflect swords. Crushing weapons are best used against the dire wasp. Their coloring is black with a mix of red and yellow stripes running over their shells. Their wings are a semi transparent black.
Vesp are strong enough to carry off a small pony if they wished. The hives contain about 300 vesp at any given time, more or less depending on the true size of the hive. If a hive is ever disturbed the wasp can become a terrible foe.
The stingers of the dire wasp contains a poison that can be deadly. It is a very powerful paralyzing poison that can, if enough of the poison gets into the individual's system, stop the heart or keep the lungs from performing.
Intelligence Level: Moderate. It can be considered about as smart as a clever horse. They act mostly upon instinct.
Mannerisms: Vesp are highly aggressive to anything they deem a threat to the hive. If a traveler ventures too close to the hive he will be immediately attacked. If the wasp is alone and feels threatened it will try to escape. However, if there is no way to escape it will attack. A hunting vesp will pick up horses, people, pets, anything it can carry back to the hive as food.
Diet: The vesp is mainly a carnivore. The hive operates as a system, hunters bringing in food. The creature is paralyzed with a sting from the vesp and is then carried back to the hive. There are wasp within the hive that have been given the job to take the capture creatures and chew them into a paste that can be stored as food for the entire hive.
